About the MSL

The Motorcycle Safety Levy (MSL) is the $25 levy collected from motorcyclists when they register a motorcycle.

The Motorcycle Safety Levy (MSL) is collected from motorcyclists when they register a motorcycle. It amounts to approximately $1, 800,000 each year and is set aside solely for initiatives that make motorcycling safer.

We advise to ACC on what initiatives should receive funding from the levy. We don’t set or influence the amount of the levy.

Our research and evaluation programme helps provide sound evidence the projects we recommend for investment have a good chance of succeeding.

Have your say

We welcome your feedback, ideas and recommendations for how we use the MSL. We can’t guarantee they’ll be accepted, acted on, or funded, but they will be considered. You can provide input via a number of channels: polls, surveys, comments on this website, and of course by email.
